COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — WSYX ABC 6 and FOX 28 are proud to announce the hiring of Central Ohio veteran sports journalist Dave Holmes as the Sports Director for ABC 6 News.
“Dave is a trusted source for local sports," ABC 6 and FOX 28 News Director Nicole Hogensen said. “We are thrilled that he will be joining our team.”

Holmes is no stranger to viewers in Central Ohio, having spent nine years with WBNS as a sports anchor. He's known for being a creative sportswriter and earned an Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Sports Reporter, is the recipient of 26 Emmy Awards and nine Ohio Associated Press Awards
“At this point in my career, the two most important things for me are culture and creative freedom,” Holmes said. “I believe no other station in the country can deliver on those two elements like ABC 6.”
In his role as sports director, Holmes will help quarterback The Football Fever, the best pregame and postgame show in Central Ohio, seen only on ABC 6 and FOX 28 during the Ohio State football season. In addition, Holmes will to take fans inside the game, revealing the human, and sometimes humorous side of athletics, on both the professional and amateur levels.
“Dave’s approach to writing and journalism complement what we pride ourselves on in Columbus, a disciplined approach to distinctive storytelling,” Hogensen said.
Added Holmes: “I’ve lived in Ohio for 41 of my 42 years, and there is nothing I love more than a Saturday at the Shoe. I am excited to continue covering the Ohio State Buckeyes and to be a part of such a successful program, The Football Fever.”

Holmes is scheduled to debut on ABC 6 and FOX 28 news programs starting May 8.
