Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Thursday, April 18.
Bel Air 16, Perryville 3: Paige Feick scored five goals to lead the win. She also collected five draw controls. Delaney Burrows netted a hat trick for the Bobcats. Riley Manzo scored two goals and led the defense with three caused turnovers. Darby Doehring had two goals and an assist. Mia Jourdan and Kayla Foughty each handed out two assists.
C. Milton Wright 14, North Harford 9: For the Hawks in the loss, Arlynn Goodman and Caroline Nicholson each scored three goals. Emily Wilson netted two goals and Olivia Bloom added one. Peyton Dawson made 13 saves in goal.
Catonsville 14, Towson 13: The Comets edged the Generals with Kate Roberson leading the charge with six goals. Maggie Kubofcik and Katie DeWitt each backed her with four points – Kubofcik with three goals and one assists and DeWitt with one goal and three assists. Casey Fisher and Maeve Miller each handed out two assists with Fisher also scoring a goal. Ava Burns made nine saves. For Towson, Chloe Gibson finished with five goals and five assists, while Gabi Galvez netted four goals.
Reservoir 11, Atholton 10: The Gators (7-3, 4-1 Howard County) held on for a one-goal win as Taylor Sung had four goals and two assists. Bailey Ko had a hat trick and an assist while Nicole Neely scored twice
Wilde Lake 9, Oakland Mills 1: The Wildecats earned their second county win of the season defeating the Scorpions.
Century 12, Westminster 6: The Knights picked up the win with Becca Mullinix making nine saves in goal. For Westminster, Sammy Martins and Riley Bunting each scored twice. Brinley Tozer and Kassidy Hanlon also had goals, while Kate McAlonan handed out two assists.
Severn 12, Mount Saint Joseph 8: The host Admirals (5-8, 1-4 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference) played with confidence and beat the Gaels (7-5, 1-3). Severn extended a two-goal lead with a 5-0 run in the first half. The Admirals were led by Hobart-bound Chase Hallam and Richmond-bound Tanner Huber, each with three goals and an assist. Mount St. Joe was led by Owen Craney with three goals and an assist, including a behind-the-back goal with 5:21 left in the first half.
South Carroll 7, Liberty 5: Caden Petrucci had a hand in five of the Cavaliers’ seven goals, scoring four and assisting on another. Cannon Hunter, Cutter Stanton and Jack Laur also scored in the win, while Colin Abbott handed out two assists. Liberty was led by Mason Ambrose with two goals.
Manchester Valley 15, Francis Scott Key 1: Gavin Reid scored five goals and assisted on three more to pace the Mavericks’ offense. Grant Miller backed him with four goals and an assist, and Matt Foran scored twice. Conor Fique chipped in a goal to go with three assists. Braden Fritz, Ryan Clark and Malakai Grosche also scored goals.
Century 6, Westminster 5: Connor McNamara made 12 saves but it wasn’t enough as the Owls lost to the Knights. Westminster had five different player score: Chase Zepp, Jack Hitchcock, Tyler Warehime, Cam Webb and Wyatt McNamara.
Bel Air 5, Fallston 2: The Bobcats built a 5-0 lead after two innings and held off the Cougars’ late rally. Ben Bowen powered the win with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Talan Johns and Ian Nitz also drove in runs. On the mound, Cooper Rey threw a five-hitter and struck out six.
Century 10, North County 0: The game was tight until the fifth inning when the Knights plated nine runs. Dominic Califano, Chase Speiden, Brody Clark and Ben Welsh all finished with two RBIs. Dominic Crisp also drove in a run. On the mound, Austin Schulze threw a three-hitter with five strikeouts.
North East 7, Havre de Grace 6: Bryce Bauer homered to left field scoring two runs but the Warriors lost a late lead, falling to North East after a 6-6 tie in the seventh inning. North East singled, scoring the walk-off run.
Perry Hall 11, Kenwood 1: JD Eckelt threw four hitless innings and struck out five for the Gators. Offensively, they put up three runs in each of the first and second innings. Gavin Rayner had two hits and three RBIs. Randy Johnson and Don Smith each drove in two.
Severn 12, St. John’s Catholic Prep 3: Aiden Szydlik went 3-for-3 with a triple, scored three runs and had three RBIs to lead the host Admirals (8-5) past the Vikings (4-6). The win was the fourth straight. Sean Ward had two hits and Severn had 11 hits. Ben Campion worked four innings for the win and reliever Caden Blanck struck out seven over the final three innings.
Key School 14, Jemicy 4: Aidan Stewart went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs and Josh Kamins went 2-for-5 with an RBI to lead the host Obezags (5-5) over the Moose (2-4). Angus Lunt-Woodward pitched two scoreless innings and struck out five for Key.
St. Mary’s 11, Gerstell 10: Ben Bonfiglio and Nick Hulme each went 2-for-3 to lead the host Saints (8-4) over the Falcons (3-6). Winning pitcher Brennan Moran picked up the win in relief. Henry Carbone and Teagan McDonough each hit a double.
Harford Tech 14, C. Milton Wright 7: Aubrey Gump had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs, and Mikayla McJilton doubled twice and drove in four runs in the Cobras’ win. Lyric Strong and Katie Burr also drove in two runs. Kendra Miller went 4-for-4 with four RBIs for the Mustangs.
Bel Air 5, North East 0: Sadie Whittaker threw a one-hitter with six strikeouts to lead the Bobcats. She also had two hits offensively. Gabrielle Watts drove in two runs, while Sofia Gallahue and Claire Bowden also had RBIs.
John Carroll 7, Mt. De Sales 5: Julia Wilkes pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts while giving up 14 hits in the win. Savannah Claycomb went 3-for-3 at the plate with two stolen bases. Wilkes also went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Perry Hall 8, Carver A&T 6: The Gators rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, where Madison Carl doubled in two for the walk-off win. Down to their final out in the seventh, Shalimar Lopez singled in a run and eventually came home on Addie Dunlap’s RBI single. That set the stage for Alyssa Lewis’ two-run home run to tie the game.
Marriotts Ridge 4, River Hill 3: The Mustangs (7-3) outlasted the Hawks in extras for their seventh straight win. Jasmin Kirkland went 4-for-4 on the afternoon. Olivia Ober, Brynne Mellady, Biff Lorah and Sienna Williams had RBIs. For River Hill (4-6, 4-5), Annie Levine and Brooke Blakeslee each had two hits.
Francis Scott Key 13, Brunswick 1: Up four runs after five innings, the Eagles put the game away with five runs in the sixth and four in the seventh. Emma Taff went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Jasmine Kline homered and drove in three runs. Kendall Jackman and Emma Tawney each finished with three hits. In the circle, Kline threw a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
Century 17, Catonsville 10: Caylee Clark doubled twice, singled and drove in three runs to lead the Knights in an offensive onslaught. Jordan Currie and Lizzy Ferment each finished with three hits and two RBIs. Mackenzie Carver and Kate Murr chipped in two RBIs each.
Marriotts Ridge 4, River Hill 1: Mukundh Boopathi and Rafa Feldman won in No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Mustangs, 8-2 and 8-6, respectively. The doubles pairings of Tyler Wang and Jerry He, and Felipe Arantes Gabriel and Tobi Ijiyemi each won their matches. For River Hill, Alex Jiao and Bryan Li won at No. 3 doubles.
Liberty 5, Manchester Valley 0: The Lions’ three doubles team only dropped a combined three games. Arjun Mistry and Hayden Speace swept the No. 1 match, 6-0, 6-0, Austin Shade and Jason Murphy won No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-0, and Chase King and Jayden Venable won third doubles, 6-1, 6-0. Nikhil Andhavarapu and Louis Major won singles matches.
River Hill 5, Marriotts Ridge 0: Adele Lair and Kacie Cheng each won, 8-1 and 8-2, respectively. In doubles, Julian Kim and Pooja Swamykumar and Julia Cabacar won as well 8-3, and 8-2, respectively.
Howard 3, Century 2: Despite the team loss, Century’s Bella Filippi swept the No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-0. Century also got a win from the second doubles team of Addison Mahoney and Olivia Kennedy, 6-3, 6-4.
Liberty 3, Manchester Valley 2: A marathon first doubles match netted the Lions (8-1, 7-1 Carroll County) the deciding point. Amelia Mustico and Payton Oakley outlasted Talula Costanzo and Madison MacGregor, 6-2, 7-6 (1), 11-9. A doubles sweep lifted Liberty. Mia Leonhartt and Mallory Stevenson won the No. 2 match, 6-2, 7-5, while Abigail Zentner and Aubrey Anderson won the third match, 6-0, 6-3. Manchester Valley got singles wins from Katy Resh and Emily McElwaine.
