Saraland breaks ground on new sports complex – Fox 10 News

SARALAND, Ala. (WALA) – Ground has officially broken on the biggest recreation center complex not only in Mobile County, but south Alabama, according to Saraland officials.
Located off Celeste Road behind Fire Station Three, ‘The Land’ will include a 78,000 square foot indoor recreation center, tennis, pickleball, volleyball courts, a nature trail, family entertainment center, and more.
Parents, like Emily Keeney, said this will open up more space for the kids.
“The fields have been overfilled in all the sports for years, and we haven’t had the best facilities, and we are excited the council finally pulled the trigger to make it a better place to live,” said Keeney.
Other residents like Breyonna Smith are impressed with the growth in Saraland.
“It’s something new to Saraland,” said Smith. “I see Saraland is building a lot of new things. I’ve been in Saraland about six years now, so it’s good to see. I have a little one, so it’s something I can take him to play out there, so I think it’s going to be great.
According to census.gov, Saraland’s population as of 2022 is about 16,300 and growing. That’s up 3,000 people from the 2010 census. The city has its own school system, police department, and fire rescue. Not to mention, the 2022 football 6A state champions.
The turnaround on the project is relatively quick. City leaders are expecting it to be finished this time next year.
