LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MI — A man shot himself in the buttocks at a Brighton sports complex, according to police.
Green Oak Township police were called shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, to the Legacy Center Sports Complex, 9299 Goble Drive in Brighton, for a report of a “loud boom,” police said in a news release.
A 56-year-old man from Brighton had shot himself in the buttocks while adjusting his pants, police said. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
No one else was injured during the incident, according to a statement from complex officials.
“Legacy Center is a gun free campus and we are taking this matter very seriously and cooperating with authorities,” a statement on the complex’s social media page said. “…While we respect everyone’s right to carry, our campus is built for athletes to enjoy their sports in a safe environment and not subject to gun violence.”
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
The Green Oak Township police were assisted by crews from the Green Oak Township Fire Department, Livingston County Ambulance and Livingston County Central Dispatch.
