WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The Frontier League Boys’ Lacrosse schedule has a new member this year, a member that was once a familiar opponent and rival for area schools.
For the first time since the 2018-19 season, the IHC Boys’ Lacrosse Team is back, competing at the varsity level.
Nate Jobson has been put in charge of reviving the program which was once one of the dominant programs in the Frontier League.
Jobson says getting the varsity program back has been a work in progress.
”I was approached last year from the school. They said they wanted to get the program back. They have a strong youth program. There’s a solid group of freshman that were playing and they thought it would be feasible to get varsity back within 2 years. Here we are, year 2, and we have a varsity program,” said Jobson.
The Cavaliers have 16 players on this year’s roster, 1 senior, 5 juniors, and 10 sophomores, with 3 of those players from Altmar Parish Williamstown.
The players are happy to get a chance to play lacrosse and be the building blocks to bring the program back to prominence.
”It’s real nice. I was at Sackets until my 8th grade year and they did a little summer league team at the modified level. We did pretty well in that, and then last year we had a modified and I transferred here. I think we went 7-2 for our league record last year. This year’s not starting off so hot but we’re improving a lot as a young team,” said IHC Sophomore Defender Connor Laduc.
”It’s pretty great. We’re pretty young this year. We’ve got a lot of rebuilding to do but I think next year will be great, really great,” said IHC Sophomore Attacker Jameson Lettiere.
With a young team comes growing pains and early on this season that has been the case.
The Cavaliers are 0-4 on the year and have been outscored by their opponents in those games 73-9.
Jobson says it’s a work in progress.
”It’s year one. We’re very young. We have one senior who’s never played before, couple juniors, I think only one has played before. And mostly sophomores. We’re very young, so really this year we just want to get better every single practice, every single game, every single opportunity,” said Jobson.
The Cavaliers will look to pick up their first win of the season on Tuesday, as they travel to Thousand Islands.

1812 Sports and Entertainment held the first ever Unity in the Community on Sunday at the Fairgrounds YMCA.
The event brought in around a dozen special needs children to work with athletes from General Brown Football, 1812 Cannons Lacrosse Club, and the Sackets United Soccer Club.
The children got a chance to learn and play basketball, lacrosse, soccer, and football.
1812 Sports and Entertainment President Chad Green says this is an important event for 1812 to put on.
”This is important for us, mainly because we want to be able to provide opportunities for everybody, all ages, all abilities, to come out and play sports. Lot of kids in our area don’t play sports at a very high level elsewhere. We want to make sure kids that don’t get those opportunities still get a chance to come out and try it right here at home,” said Green.
