Belmont Police searching for suspect who stole from the Kris Lang Sports Complex – WBTV

BELMONT, N.C. (WBTV) – Police in Belmont are asking for your help after they say someone broke into a former University of North Carolina Basketball Player’s facility and stole several gaming systems meant for kids.
Kris Lang and his wife Laquita Lang own Kris Lang Sports Complex in Belmont.
The facility serves as a 24/7 destination for families to exercise while providing camps and daycare for children.
”I just cried like it was just sad,” said Laquita.
Around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, surveillance video from the complex’s cameras capture a man casually walking into the baseball door entrance at the complex.
The person can be seen disconnecting several gaming consoles in two game rooms and stashing them in a bag.
“3 Xboxes, 1 Playstation (5), and Ipad Pro, and a Nintendo Switch. He knew where to go what to do. He knew exactly which door would be left unlocked,” shared Laquita.
The Langs said they don’t recognize the man in the video, but believed he’s been to the complex before and scoped out the devices.
They say the game rooms are locked with a code, but somehow this person knew it.
“It’s not like he’s stealing from me personally. It’s all the kids in the community.. I don’t have time to play video games while running a business. So he’s taking from them. He did this Thursday and Friday we had a camp and the staff was gone,” said Kris.
They’re hoping someone will come forward to help police find the suspect so children in the community can get the justice they deserve.
“We do so much to help so many kids and that’s what we wanted to be here for is to help kids and give them a place to go to where they can feel safe and escape,” shared Laquita.
In the meantime, the Langs have shared that the community is rallying around them by making donations to replace the stolen gaming systems.
To help prevent the crime from happening again, the Langs say they’re changing out the locks on the doors and not share the code to employees and members.
If you have any tips or recognize the man in the video you are asked to contact Belmont Police at 704-825-3792
