WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The 2023 Holiday Jam Fest wrapped up at Jefferson Community College with 3 girls varsity basketball games on the schedule.
The middle contest of the day featured the number one team in the state in Girls Class D, Hermon DeKalb, against Class B Mexico of Section 3.
In the 1st quarter, Olivia Simser spots up and buries the 3: Hermon DeKalb up 1.
Then it was Jayla O’Donnell taking the feed down low and connecting to put the Green Demons up 3.
Hailey Brabaw spots up and rips yarn for the trifecta to put Hermon DeKalb on top 6.
Brabaw drives baseline and gets the floater to fall: Hermon DeKalb up 7.
Jayla O’Donnell finishes off the nice feed down low.
Hermon DeKlab stays unbeaten, beating Mexico 46-27.
In the 1st game at the 2023 Holiday Jam Fest at JCC, Watertown met Whitesboro.
In the 2nd quarter, Samantha Booth buried the 3 from the corner: Watertown down 8.
Then it was Kimberlee DiLeonardo driving to the tin for 2 and she’s fouled. Watertown still down 8.
In the 3rd quarter, Willa Overton gets loose down low for the kiss off glass: Whitesboro by 10.
In the 4th quarter, Haley LaVancha finds an opening inside and connects: Watertown down 11.
Then it was Sydnie Manarina driving inside for the bucket.
But Watertown falls to Whitesboro 42-33.
In the final game of the tournament, Thousand Islands met Colton Pierrepont.
In the 1st quarter, Kaitlyn Houston hits the jumper: Colton Pierrepont down 1.
In the 2nd quarter, Houston connects on the baseline jumper tying the game.
In transition, Hailey Delaney lays in 2 to put Colton Pierrepont up 2.
Maci Maloney answers for Thousand Islands as TI beats Colton Pierrepont 38-32.
In NAC Girls’ Basketball, the Sami Curtis Tournament Championship took place as Canton hosted Hammond.
Landree Kenyon scores on the putback.
On the give-and-go, it was Ava Howie for the lay-up and the foul: 5-0 Devils.
Canton’s Calie Klassen finds Tessa Alguire for the lay-up: 5-2.
On the inbound, Howie curls to rack and floats the two-pointer. She scored 23 on the day.
Off a miss, Hammond’s Isabelle Woodcock was on the rebound.
Then it was Howie to Woodcock to Kenyon for the “bank deposit.” Devils stack up a 21-2 lead.
The Bears’ Alguire makes the free-throw. She netted 10 on the day.
Then it was Klassen to Winifred Downs on the lay-up.
Alguire to Downs on the scoop shot for two as Hammond beats Canton 54-25.
In the Sami Curtis Tournament Consolation Game, it was Edwards-Knox vs. Norwood-Norfolk.
It was Peyton Sullivan for the Flyers who lays in two of her eight points to put Edwards Knox up 14.
Then Haylee Bullock tosses down a 14-footer for the Cougars.
Camryn Huckle races past the D for the lay-in and foul.
Kierra Fountain finds Addison Foster who knocks down three to put the Cougars up 22.
Off the steal, Foster puts up two more. Then it was Foster for three, and bingo! She scored 15.
Then it was Angelina Favreau with the Flyers’ score.
Huckle closes out the half with the basket as Edwards Knox beats Norwood Norfolk 62-25.
In ACC action from the Dome, Syracuse hosted Pittsburgh.
In the 1st half, Balke Henson finishes with the jam to put the Panthers up 3.
In the 2nd half, off the turnover, Judah Mintz throws it down: Syracuse up by 5.
Then it was Benny Williams inside rocking the rim: Syracuse up 4.
Ishmael Leggett drives the lane for 2 and the foul: Pittsburgh down 1.
But Mintz finds Williams on the alley-oop.
Syracuse beats Pittsburgh 81-73.
”I thought the game was a hard fought game. I was very proud of our guys going into halftime down 8 against a very good Pittsburgh team. They’ve beaten us 5 out of the last 6 times, 3 times in a row. I thought our 2nd half was just so composed to the end. I thought we did a really good job. We battled back,” said Syracuse Coach Adrian Autry.
At Herb Brooks Arena, Clarkson met 10th ranked UMass in the consolation game of the Adirondack Winter Invitational.
In the 1st period, Clarkson was down 1-0 when Ryan Taylor dents the back of the net, tying the game at 1 after 1.
In the 2nd period, Clarkson was down 3-1 when Mathieu Gosselin finds the mark on a power play goal: 3-2 UMass.
Late in the 2nd period, Clarkson ties it up when Ayrton Martino makes some nice moves and lights the lamp to make it 3 all.
Clarkson beats UMass 5-4 in overtime.
