Sunday Sports: Clarkson Mens Hockey shines in the classroom – WWNY

POTSDAM, New York (WWNY) – It was a good semester both on and off the ice for the Clarkson Golden Knights Mens Hockey Team.
Coach Casey Jones’ team had a 3.546 GPA for the Fall Semester, the highest of any men’s sport at Clarkson.
Two players had a perfect 4.0 and 16 players had a 3.5 or higher GPA.
Jones credits the relationship the professors have with the players and adds it says a lot about the type of athlete the Golden Knights recruit to come to Clarkson.
”I think our guys are just invested. It’s important for us. I think a school like Clarkson, with the way professors work with student athletes, opportunities to engage with professors and learn, it’s a great learning environment for our student athletes. Our guys are- they’re just invested in their academics coming here. We think we have a niche as far as our recruiting. We get guys that are serious about getting a good education and serious about being pro hockey players at the end of the day. That’s kind of how we recruit and I think it shows in the way our guys are successful in the classroom,” said Jones.
