The Integrative Science Initiative and the N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative will host a joint seminar featuring medical ethnobotanist Cassandra Quave, who will discuss “Ethnobotany and the Targeted Discovery of Bioactive Molecules From Nature.”
Quave, Ph.D., is curator of the Herbarium and an associate professor of dermatology and human health at Emory University, where she leads anti-infective drug discovery research initiatives and teaches courses on medicinal plants, microbiology and pharmacology. As a medical ethnobotanist, Quave’s work focuses on the documentation and pharmacological evaluation of plants used in traditional medicine. Her science memoir, The Plant Hunter: A Scientist’s Quest for Nature’s Next Medicines, was published in 2021.
