By India Today Web Desk: Police have revealed Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) links to gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, who were gunned down by three shooters on Saturday night. They said he was the leader of the IS 227 gang and his brother, Ashraf, was an active member of the same.
Atiq had said in a statement that he had links with Pak-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and ISI and received arms dropped through Pakistani drones in Punjab.
Atiq and Ashraf told police that they knew the address of the people who delivered them the arms but could not locate them from jail and would be able to tell only if they reached the location.
They also said that the arms used in the murder of Umesh Pal were received from Pak-based agencies.
UMESH PAL MURDER CASE
Umesh Pal was shot dead on February 24 near his residence in Prayagraj. One of his bodyguards was injured in the attack and later succumbed to his injuries. CCTV footage shows Umesh Pal and one of his two police bodyguards getting out of the SUV when suddenly a man comes from behind and shoots him.

Atiq Ahmed, his brother and ex-MLA Ashraf are the prime accused in the Raju Pal murder case. Raju Pal was murdered months after winning the Allahabad (West) assembly seat in his electoral debut by defeating former Atiq Ahmed’s younger brother Khalid Azim.
All the accused are presently lodged in jails in UP and Gujarat.
Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ahraf are also the prime suspects in the murder of Umesh Pal.
